Week 9: Medical Schtuff

My poor babies. We had our two month pediatrician appointment last Friday and all hell broke loose for my little guys.

Bennett: Still the (fairly) healthy one, but we found out that he has an inguinal hernia and needs surgery. Boo. This will be taken care of on May 26th and then I think he will be a super happy baby! (We realized that a lot of his crying has been in pain! He just always cried like that, so we didn't realize!)

Jackson: Well, apparently a two month old shouldn't still be jaundiced. (They saw him jaundiced at one month old and told me that it was fine as long as it didn't get worse, which it didn't. I didn't realize that it was supposed to completely get better/didn't realize that he was really all that yellow, since he was always that color.) Poor guy had to get blood squeezed through a slice in his finger for 45 minutes until they had enough to run some tests to find out why he is still jaundiced (it's not breastmilk jaundice at this age). We found out from those tests that he has hemolytic anemia, which means his red blood cells break down faster than his body can make new ones and that is causing the jaundice. We need to see a hematologist to figure out what is causing the anemia. Then on Wednesday he caught a virus that we only discovered after a trip to the ER early Thursday because he would not wake up to eat... after 7 hours since his last meal! He had pretty low blood sugar, and even though he hadn't eaten for that long, this was apparently unusual, so now we have to keep a record of his blood sugars before eating 3-4 times a day and see an endocrinologist to determine why he dipped so low. Poor kid. He just cannot catch a break from the needles!

We would appreciate any prayers you feel like throwing up for us! I am trying not to be too worried, but of course I want my babies to be healthy and feeling their best!

Oh those poor little guys! I am certainly saying a prayer that they get healthy fast :) Take care Abbie, and I'd love to say don't worry (but I can't ever take my own advice...) but you're a mom and that goes with the territory! Just try not to worry too much and have faith that everything will be fine.
